OUR
BELIEFS
Faith Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Orthodox
Presbyterian Churches. Faith church began in 2002 when a core
group formed in North East Dallas to start a Presbyterian and Reformed
church. However, our beliefs and traditions are much older than
our young existence might suggest.
The Orthodox
Presbyterian church began in 1936 as a result of Liberalism's
stronghold on the mainline Presbyterian Church (PCUSA). Her
founders sought to continue the
faith once delivered to all the saints. They recommitted
themselves to the authority of God's Holy Word and rejoiced in
embracing its teaching as summarized in the Westminster
Standards.
We're made up of a
diverse group of believers from many different backgrounds, and are
united together by our commitment to God's Holy Word as
it is lived out in our daily lives. We seek to honor and glorify
God by
loving and obeying him as we love each other and strive to build each
other up in the bonds of Christian unity.
We do not consider
ourselves to be perfect. In truth, we are sinners saved by
grace! We strive by the work of the Holy Spirit to be as
consistent as possible to the Scriptures in what we believe, teach, and
practice. We invite all believers who share in our commitment to
Christ
and His Word to come enjoy the fruits of Christian fellowship with
us.
This
church exists to glorify God. The congregation seeks to proclaim and
apply the whole counsel of God in Jesus Christ to every area of life.
Therefore, our ministry aims to faithfully instruct people to observe
the Scriptures, for the Scriptures are the church's only infallible
rule for faith and living life. In this congregation, you will
experience your faith nurtured through expository preaching, meaningful
fellowship, care and concern, and through an urgent and vital interest
in reaching out to people by every means possible, in order to bring
the good news of Christ to them where they are. The congregation seeks
to serve humanity throughout Northeast Dallas, by setting an example of
Biblical Christianity and by planting new churches in surrounding
communities.
Church Membership
The Bible
always refers to believers and their children as members of a local
church under the oversight of Elders. Therefore, church membership is a
matter of grateful Christian duty. If you are a visitor, we welcome
your worship in this church and invite you to speak with us about
becoming a member. The four vows of church membership are:
-
Do you believe the Bible,
consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the Word of God, and
its doctrine of salvation to be the perfect and only true doctrine of
salvation?
-
Do you confess that because of
your sinfulness you abhor and humble yourself before God, and that you
trust for salvation not in yourself but in Jesus Christ alone?
-
Do you acknowledge Jesus
Christ as your sovereign Lord and do you promise, in reliance on the
grace of God, to serve him with all that is in you, to forsake the
world, to mortify your old nature, and to lead a godly life?
-
Do you agree to submit in the
Lord to the government of this church and, in case you should be found
delinquent in doctrine or life, to heed its discipline?
